Revaluation of Bank, Customer and Vendors in Foreign Currencies at period end

Posted on by 40

Came across the adjust exchange rate function in BC. It allows you to revalue foreign Bank, Customer and Vendor accounts at period end.

Very useful if at period end you have a lot of foreign currency accounts that you wish to revalue. By clicking Adjust Exchange rate, Select the currency that you wish to revalue the ok. BC will automatically revalue and post the revaluation in your general ledger. Note you must have your currencies setup with the accounts to post to.

You may get an error that the currency is not in the filter period. To resolve this you should ensure that FLOAT rates or your exchange rate is updated for that day.

I've a client on ver 24 with the new extended Adjust Exchange Rate function.
so, I set up month-end rate and ran this, expecting the adjustment of foreign currency bank account to be correct.

e.g. USD bank with AUD (LCY)

USD1,211.92 was posted as AUD1,644.57 (currency factor 0.7369).
I adjusted the exchange rate so the new currency factor is 0.732

but when I ran the Adjust Exchange Rate, it adjusted the LCY to match the USD i.e. currency factor was 1 !!
    How did this happen?
The LCY balance in the bank dropped by AUD432.65!!

Is this a bug or did I miss a setup parameter?

    Thanks
