Request to improve so that Bing can be used with company accounts
Microsoft Feedback Proposal
Background & Problem
After users are issued a company account, they continue to try using the existing consumer features on Bing.com, but due to policy changes, access is blocked. Due to a lack of guidance, users spend weeks trying to resolve the issue and become frustrated.
Scenario: Imagine a user who used Bing daily and tries to log in to Bing.com the same way even after receiving a company account. However, they keep failing. The user wonders, 'Did I do something wrong?' and changes browser settings, checks the network, and even contacts the IT team. Yet no one clearly informs them that 'consumer features on Bing are not supported with company accounts.' In the end, the user repeats unnecessary attempts for weeks and becomes frustrated.
Why Users Struggle
ᄋ - Work/School search functionality on Bing.com ended after 2025-03-31 ᄋ - Consumer features (such as Microsoft Rewards) are not supported on company accounts
ᄋ - User confusion due to lack of guidance
ᄋ - Possibility of external login being blocked by organizational security policies
Proposed Solutions
We propose specific improvement methods. The key is to provide clear guidance to users, offer them choices, and maintain security.
Solution 1: Provide Clear Guidance
Clearly inform users on Bing.com and the login screen that company accounts do not support consumer features. For example, display a message on the first screen saying, 'Bing consumer features are not available with a company account. Please use work search (M365) or Copilot instead.'
Solution 2: Introducing an Option Selection Method
Here, we use the analogy of a taxi and a new car. The taxi represents existing Bing consumer features, while the new car represents M365 search and Copilot for business use. After a user receives their company ID (company account), they try to keep taking the taxi but are denied. Without guidance, they don't know why it doesn't work. Instead, two buttons are presented on the screen:
- Option 1: New Car (Business Use) → Safely use M365 search and Copilot with the company account
- Option 2: Taxi (Consumer Use) → Use Bing consumer features with a personal account
This allows the user to make their own choice, and each path is completely separated according to security policies.
Solution 3: Maintaining Security
Separate sessions, tokens, and policies for each option to prevent data leakage. For example, Option 1 applies company profiles and conditional access, while Option 2 only allows Bing consumer features and blocks access to organizational resources.
Benefits
- Minimizes user confusion and increases satisfaction
- Maintains work productivity and enhances security
- Low implementation difficulty: easily handled by separating authentication flows and policies
Closing Statement
This proposal can simultaneously achieve the goals of improving user experience and maintaining security. Microsoft can significantly enhance user satisfaction through better guidance and the option selection feature. The taxi and new car analogy is simple but powerful: the key is clearly showing users which path they should take.
