Cloud-Hosted D365FO Environment Upgrade Fails at Preparation Stage (10.0.41 → 10.0.48)

Hi All,

I have a cloud-hosted development environment in LCS. The environment version shown in LCS is 10.0.41, whereas the Installed product version displayed on the D365 Finance & Operations About page inside the VM is 10.0.43.

I am trying to upgrade the environment to the latest service update (10.0.48) using Apply Update in LCS. However, the upgrade consistently fails during the Preparation stage. The failure occurs within a few minutes, and both the Download Logs and Runbook files are empty, so there is no useful information to diagnose the issue.

Has anyone encountered a similar situation or knows how to manually upgrade a cloud-hosted development environment when the LCS upgrade fails at the preparation stage? Any guidance or troubleshooting steps would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

Regards,
Muhammad

    Hi @Muhammad Haroon

The environemnt has been updated through command prompt instead of LCS, that's the reason you are seeing difference in version LCS and Product version.

When you update the same from LCS again the changes will be reflected in LCS with the correct version.

If the environment update is failed during the preparation maybe VS hasn't closed in your environment and your environment is running in old version as well that might be the reason.

I would suggested you to create a new VM with latest version. if you don't have any dependcies with old environment.

    Thanks,
    Subra

    Hi @Muhammad Haroon

Additionally, if you have any dependencieswith that environment, you can try to update the same with command Prompt as well. After the update completion, you can trigger the update from LCS to reflect the version changes in LCS as well.

Hi @Subra , First of all thank you for your reply.

Could you please provide some details on how the environment can be updated through the command prompt?

I downloaded the Service Update 10.0.48 package onto the environment and tried installing it using AXUpdateInstaller, but I couldn't get it to work.

Also, when I run the following command:

    AXUpdateInstaller.exe list

it doesn't list any services under "List of services installed on this system", which seems unusual.

    Thanks.

    Hi @Subra

I have already tried updating/upgrading the environment by following the steps in the blog post you shared. However, the actual update never starts when I run the execute command.

That is why I was asking if there is any alternative way to update or upgrade the environment apart from this method.

    Thanks.

    Hi @Muhammad Haroon

It's should work, if it's not working there might be some issues with your runbook file. since I have been this for our Local VM.

Please let me know what are all the activities you have done so far for this activity?

For different approach, already I have mentioned either you can delete the environment and create a new one if you don't have any dependcies with this environment.

Alternatively, can you please try to update to V45 from LCS instead of 48.

    Thanks,
    Subra
