Archiving of Customer Invoice Data

Hi,

Just wondering if anyone has used this feature, as I was wondering what tables it archives in D365, does it completely remove the data from the system?

Hi,

It creates history tables in F&O, stores the data there and stores it also in dataverse, both areas are compressed. Dataverse more than in the history tables. From the history tables you can restore the data to the live db. That is not possible from the dataverse.

Therefore, you have to find ways to connect to your reports, either from history tables or from dataverse. I looked into it a year ago. Not sure if there are out of the box functionalities to delete the data from the history tables and\or dataverse.

Hi @Lexington83,

From my understanding, the Customer invoice archive feature moves invoice data from the active transaction tables into archive/history tables in D365 F&SCM as explained by Adis.

Once archived, the records are removed from the operational tables but are still retained in the system and can be accessed through the Archive with Dataverse long term retention workspace.

The main consideration is reporting, any reports that rely on the operational invoice tables may not include archived records unless they are designed to read the archive data as well.

Also, there is no simple one-to-one table mapping published, as invoice archiving involves multiple related tables such as invoice headers, lines, tax, and accounting-related data.

In addition to the replies above, the data from tables starting with CustInvoiceJour and CustInvoiceTrans will be copied to Dataverse long term retention when you start the initialization process. After this is complete, all new records will also be copied to the Dataverse long term retention storage.

At that time, no data is removed from the original tables. When you start the archival process, it will move the data from the selected period to tables starting with CustInvoiceJourHistory and CustInvoiceTrans history. There are extension tables for specific localizations. The history tables have less indexes and less fields, that result in less storage consumption. At this moment. you can decide to move the data back to the original tables.

Eventually, you can choose to purge tables from the history tables. At that time there is no option to get the data back into the live tables. Then you only have the details in Dataverse. It is recommended to build historical reports from the Dataverse long term retention storage when you want to purge data from F&O.
