"Converting" an Unposted Assembly Order

Hi:
 
An Assembly Order generated from a Sales Order cannot be posted, until the Sales Order is posted.
 
This is true, even if the Assembly is Assemble to Stock and not Assemble to Order.
 
What sort of problems does this present to someone who doesn't want to wait to have the Assembly Order posted?
 
Is there a way to "convert" an unposted Assembly Order from an Assemble to Order to an Assemble to Stock?
 
If not, are there any workarounds?
