Mobile device error Invalid work execute mode

(0) ShareShare
ReportReport
Posted on by
I get this error "Invalid work execute mode" from the physical mobile device scanner (Android).
On the WHS app PC version, I don't get the error.

I have built a Movement by template menu item and put it on a menu item Location Inquery (from the mobile steps - detour).
Means when a location is scanned, it is possible to hold down the finger on the item found, and select Movement by template.
When I want to leave this menu again, the error "Invalid work execute mode" occurs.

The WHS mobile app version is 4.x

It is not possible to enable "Process guide" in the menu items.
An error "Process guide is not yet supported for this flow." occurs.

I have the same question (0)

    1) Issue
    - When using the Warehouse Management mobile app (Android, version 4.x), an error "Invalid work execute mode" occurs
    - The issue appears when navigating from a Location Inquiry menu and triggering a detour action (e.g., “Movement by template”)
    - After executing or exiting the detour, the system throws the error instead of returning cleanly to the original flow
    - The same configuration works correctly in the WHS App PC/browser version without any error
    - Process guide cannot be enabled for the menu item, as the system shows: "Process guide is not yet supported for this flow."

    2) Reason
    - The error indicates a mismatch in work execution context (Work Execute Mode) when returning from a detour flow
    - The mobile app enforces stricter validation of execution modes compared to the PC version
    - The menu item "Movement by template" uses a different work execution mode than the Location Inquiry flow
    - When invoked as a detour, the system cannot correctly restore the original execution mode context on exit
    - Since the flow does not support Process Guide, it relies on legacy mobile framework behavior, which has limitations in handling mixed execution modes
    - As a result, the Android app throws the error when attempting to transition back to the original menu state

    3) Resolution
    - Avoid mixing menu items with different Work Execute Modes within detour scenarios
    - Ensure that both the calling menu item (Location Inquiry) and the detour menu item use compatible execution modes
    - Consider creating a dedicated mobile menu structure where Movement by template is accessed directly instead of via detour
    - Validate menu item configuration:
    - Work creation process
    - Work confirmation setup
    - Mode consistency across flows
    - If detours are required, ensure they are used only with flows that support consistent execution context
    - Since Process Guide is not supported for this flow, avoid relying on it and instead align with legacy mobile framework constraints
    - Test behavior specifically on mobile devices, as the browser/PC version may not expose the same validation restrictions
    - If the issue persists, review extensibility or raise a Microsoft support ticket, as this behavior can be tied to framework limitations in mobile app version 4.x

*Due to the complex and different possibilities of deploying Dynamics 365 I highly recommend not to setup the application without some expert/partner or support. (For more information contact me under anassl@inno-solutions.info or visit www.inno-solutions.de)
