How to track historical user role assignments for SoD audits?

I need to prove Segregation of Duties (SoD) compliance for a past audit period, but I am struggling to track historical role changes.

How can I audit user access history in D365 F&O to prove whether a user held conflicting roles at any specific point in the past? Is there an out-of-the-box report for historical role assignments, or does this require a specific Database Logging/telemetry setup?
