Reset IIS Express in VS

We often fail to connect D365 UI in the browser unless restarting IIS express in DEV VM.

May i know why does it happen?
Also, may it restart IIS the service management? or other ways.

I can't answer why you can't connect. Can you tell us more about the problem, e.g. what happens when you try to connect and when it happens? Is IIS Express running when you can't connect?

IIS and IIS Express are two different things, therefore restarting IIS isn't useful if you're running F&O on IIS Express. It could actually get you into troubles if both web servers tried to host F&O at the same time. (I don't know what would happen.)

    Hi @J_Lee,

Can you please share with us more details ?
You should also check that the services are running !

    Best regards,

    You can check below.

    • Perform a full build and sync.
    • Clean up the environment.
    • Ensure sufficient disk space is available.
    • Verify the status of all D365 services — including Batch, WWW, and Difx.

@ssc121 Your reply looks like generated by AI and not really relevant. Could you please explain what you mean cleaning up the environment, what is your theory about that the DIXF service could be the cause or how the restart of IIS Express would solve insufficient disk space?
The idea of rebuilding code could help, but only because restarts the web server. Doing compilation and DB sync just to restart IIS Express sounds like enormous waste of time to me. If the system needed compilation or DB sync, mere IIS Express restart wouldn't solve it (which is does, according J_Lee).

Hi Martin, sometimes if the temp folder in the VM hasn't been cleaned up, it can slow things down, which affects the browsing performance of the D365 URL in regular basis.

Ensuing there's sufficient space on the C drive, as low disk space can slow down the environment again result performance. Sometimes, the logs drive also gets full, espically H drives.

Yes, Difx was just a best practice in this case, not a mandatory requirement

But the topic of this thread is not "browsing performance of the D365".

If DIXF isn't running, you won't be able to export and import files, but won't impact the rest of F&O. As far as I know, it won't cause the problem discussed in this thread, therefore checking the DIXF (or batch) service can't solve the problem.

    Thank All.

That DEV machine will be powered on automatically every day but it cannot be accessible in the browser unless we click "Reset IIS Express" in VS. It is very strange behaviour and want to know its clause

Do I understand correctly that you're talking only about the situation when you start Visual Studio the first time after booting up the VM?
  • J_Lee Profile Picture

    Yes, it is.

It sometimes happens to me too, but it works in most cases. I didn't investigate the reason; my theory is that something doesn't run in the right order, e.g. that a service tries to start when another one isn't ready yet and therefore it fails. But it's just a guess; I may be wrong.

If you want to investigate it, the first thing I would do is something I already mentioned - checking whether IIS Express is running at all.
