Financial Report - Update Excel template with data

(1) ShareShare
ReportReport
Posted on by 8
I am using Dynamics 365 Business Central

When I go to Financial Reporting, after selecting the report I want. I select

1. <Export to Excel/Print>
2. Create New Excel Template
3. I open and modified the template. I duplicate the original and rename the new worksheet tab to <Output> and save it.
4. Then go back to Financial Reporting and this time I select

1. <Update Excel template with data>
2. Drag the excel file and it give me an error msg as shown

I also tried after created the template, just open the file and create a new tab and save it. Update again, it still gave me the same error.

Has anyone encounter before?

Any help is much appreciated

    Hello,
Most likely the issue is the worksheet structure/name: for Financial Reporting Excel templates, Microsoft’s documented process is to copy the generated worksheet and rename the copied/raw-data sheet to Data, not Output. Then you can rename/format the other worksheet as your presentation/report tab. When you upload the file through Update Excel template with data, the workbook should be closed, and when BC asks which worksheet to update, select Data. Also, don’t change the position/structure of the generated data area too much, because the row/column layout must still match the financial report definition. I would retest with a fresh template: create template → copy sheet → rename copied sheet to Data → rename original sheet for presentation → save/close → upload again.
