Prevent Users from Reordering Specific Grid Columns in D365 F&O

Hi everyone,

I have a requirement in Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations where I need to prevent users from reordering specific columns in a form grid.

The requirement is:

  • Some columns in the grid should have a fixed position/order.
  • Users should not be able to drag and reorder these specific columns.
  • This restriction should apply to all users, including system administrators.
  • Other columns can remain reorderable if possible.
  • The solution should preferably be implemented using X++ or form/control customization.

Is this achievable in D365 F&O?

If yes, could someone please share the recommended approach or an example of the relevant X++/form control properties or methods that can be used to prevent column reordering?

Thanks in advance.

    Hello,

The form personalization is great feature from MS for users. What's the business scenario where you want to restrict them, it wont override any of the business process and logic on form, Also, in any condition a system admin will have full access why you want to restrict even system admin user? its simply not achievable.

In short: D365FO does not provide a supported mechanism to lock the position of individual grid columns or disable column drag drop reordering. Column ordering is a user personalization feature of the platform grid control. Any attempt to enforce fixed column positions would require a custom UI control and is I would not recommended that.

    Hi,

As Deepak said, D365FO does not natively support locking the position of specific columns while allowing other columns in the same grid to be freely reordered.

Even if you lock "Column A" so the user cannot drag it, if the rest of the grid is unlocked, the user can simply drag "Column B" and place it in front of "Column A." The relative position of the "locked" column is still compromised.

    Thanks,
