Getting the Parent Node Failed

(0) ShareShare

Posted on by 61
Good morning

We use a customised Finance and Operations D365 at our organisation.

Maybe as far as a few months ago the above error message has started appearing when opening certain forms.

Today I opened a form and got the above message.  When I exited the form and went back in again, the error message didn't display.

Is this a known issue in Finance and Operations or do you think it is something to do with our customised version of the software?

Kind regards
Rebecca

    Hi Rebecca,

The behavior you're describing—where an error message appears intermittently when opening certain forms in your customised D365 Finance and Operations environment—is not uncommon, especially in environments with customizations.

    Here are a few considerations:

    1. Customizations Are the Most Likely Cause

Since the issue is not consistent and seems to resolve itself upon reopening the form, it's likely related to:

    • A custom control or extension that fails to load under certain conditions
    • A timing issue with data sources or form initialization
    • A personalization or cache-related glitch

    2. Check the Event Viewer or Browser Console

If possible, check the browser console (F12 > Console tab) or the server logs for more detailed error messages when the issue occurs. This can help pinpoint whether it's a client-side script issue or a server-side problem.

    3. Known Issues

There are no widely reported platform bugs in standard D365 F&O that match this exact behavior. However, Microsoft does release hotfixes regularly, so it’s worth checking if your environment is up to date.

    4. Clear Usage Data

Sometimes, clearing usage data for the affected user can help:

    • Go to System administration > Users > Users
    • Select the user and click Options > Usage data > Reset

    5. Test in a Clean Environment

If possible, test the same form in a non-customized environment or with customizations temporarily disabled. If the issue disappears, it confirms the root cause lies in the custom code.

If the issue persists or becomes more frequent, it may be worth raising a support ticket with Microsoft or reviewing the customizations with your development team.

Please verify if this response was helpful.

    Best regards,
    Daniele
