Hello,
Has anyone tried using this software over a VPN?
We're deployed it to some work from home people, and the software runs painfully slow over VPN.
Does anyone have any experience with this?

Sounds like you are trying to run GP over a WAN which is only supported using Terminal Server.

Yes, Covid has put us in the same scenario - we never really planned on having vpn access to the software.
The software works for us oven the VPN, it's just very slow.
We'll have to look at putting it back into Citrix or something for the time being.

We never really had remote users till this year when covid hit. Prior to that, everyone was in office. Tried VPN, lots of weird issues and especially slowness. End up deploying Remote Desktop server. Not cheap but nearly all issues went away

If the users are trying to use GP from home, and connecting from there to a SQL server elsewhere, then they would get massive performance issues. This would be expected.
It is important to note that GP does not support connecting over a WAN (Wide Area Network). This means that anyone connecting to GP must be within the same building as the GP server, or remoting into a workstation/server in the same building as the GP Server. You cannot connect directly to GP using an ODBC connection over the internet. This is the most common network related issue we see. More information can be found in the link below:
This is further outlined on our system requirements for any GP Version (mbs.microsoft.com/.../MDGP2018_System_Requirements - #5 in the Additional Information at the bottom)
5. Remote access for Microsoft Dynamics GP is not supported in a WAN or P2P environment due to the possibility of connection and data consistency errors.
The only supported options are to either
a) Have Microsoft Dynamics GP installed on a Remote Desktop Services machine (with or without Citrix) in the same network as the SQL Server hosting your Dynamics GP databases
b) Deploy the Dynamics GP Web Client for extranet access and allow users to log in from remote browsers.
