Hello! We are set up in D365 Sales to allow an opportunity to have one or more quotes which I understand is not the default set up and required customisation but not sure.

From within the D365 Sales module is there a reporting module where I can extract a report of Opportunities and including Quote Details (Quote Header + Quote Product Details) or is this achieved only via PowerBI?

Thanks

reporting on opportunity with quote & product details from within CRM
    Hello jaybeegee,

You're right that allowing an opportunity to have multiple quotes is a customization from the default Dynamics 365 Sales setup. This is a common requirement and definitely achievable.

Regarding reporting on Opportunities with Quote details, you have a couple of options within Dynamics 365 Sales, but also Power BI, depending on your reporting needs:

    1. Advanced Find and Export to Excel (Basic Reporting):

    • Process:

      • You can use Advanced Find to retrieve data from the Opportunity and Quote entities.

      • However, directly exporting related Quote Product details within the same export is limited.

      • You would likely need to export:

        • Opportunities.

        • Quotes related to those opportunities.

        • Quote Products related to those quotes.

      • Then, you would need to manually combine the data in Excel using VLOOKUP or similar functions.

    • Pros:

      • Simple and readily available within Dynamics 365.

      • No additional tools required.

    • Cons:

      • Manual data combination can be time-consuming and error-prone.

      • Not suitable for complex reporting or large datasets.

      • Limited by the number of records that can be exported.

      •

    •

    2. Reports (Built-in or Custom):

    • Built-in Reports:

      • Dynamics 365 Sales includes some standard reports, but they might not provide the specific level of detail you need for Opportunities and Quote Product details.

    • Custom Reports (SSRS):

      • You can create custom reports using SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS).

      • This allows you to design reports that retrieve data from multiple related entities, including Opportunities, Quotes, and Quote Products.

      • This is the best option for on premise environments.

    • Pros:

      • Provides more control over report design and data retrieval.

      • Can create highly customized reports.

    • Cons:

      • Requires SSRS development skills.

      • Can be time-consuming to develop and maintain.

      •

    •

    3. Power BI (Recommended for Comprehensive Reporting):

    • Process:

      • Connect Power BI to your Dynamics 365 Sales data.

      • Create Power BI reports and dashboards that visualize Opportunity and Quote Product data.

      • You can create relationships between the Opportunity, Quote, and Quote Product entities to retrieve and display related data.

    • Pros:

      • Provides powerful data visualization and analysis capabilities.

      • Allows you to create interactive dashboards and reports.

      • Can handle large datasets.

      • Can combine data from multiple sources.

      • Is the best option for online environments.

    • Cons:

      • Requires Power BI skills and licensing.

      • Requires initial setup and configuration.

    •

    Recommendations:

    • For simple, ad-hoc reporting: Advanced Find and Export to Excel can be sufficient.

    • For more complex, recurring reporting:

      • SSRS (on-premises): If you are on premise this is the best option.

      • Power BI (online): If you are online, this is the best option.

    • Power BI is the most powerful and flexible option for creating comprehensive reports that combine data from multiple entities.

    •

    Key Considerations:

    • Data Relationships: Ensure that the relationships between the Opportunity, Quote, and Quote Product entities are correctly configured.

    • Performance: When working with large datasets, consider performance implications and optimize your reports accordingly.

    •

By using these methods, you can effectively report on Opportunities and Quote details in Dynamics 365 Sales.

reporting on opportunity with quote & product details from within CRM
Hi there! Good morning, evening, or afternoon - depending on where you are :) Hope you are well today!

In Dynamics 365 Sales, there isn't a built-in reporting module that directly provides a report combining Opportunities with Quote Details (including Quote Header and Quote Product Details). However, you can achieve this in a couple of ways:
    • Advanced Find or Views in D365 Sales: You can create custom views or use Advanced Find to pull data from Opportunities and related Quotes. However, this approach has limitations, as it may not fully combine all the details (e.g., Quote Product Details) in a single report.
    • Custom Reports via FetchXML: You can create a custom report using FetchXML and embed it within Dynamics 365. This requires some technical expertise but allows you to design a report that includes Opportunities, Quote Headers, and Quote Product Details.
    • Power BI Integration: For more advanced reporting, Power BI is the recommended tool. You can connect Power BI to your Dynamics 365 environment and create a report that combines data from Opportunities, Quotes, and Quote Products. This approach provides greater flexibility and visualization options.
