Hi, I have something like the below link, and I wanted to trigger a power automate when clicking. I tried the trigger "Email link clicked", maybe I didn't use correctly, it didn't work as expected. Please advise.

how to track link clicks from email
    Hello sdnd2000,

You're on the right track trying to use Power Automate to trigger a flow when a link is clicked in an email. However, the "Email link clicked" trigger in Power Automate is specifically designed to work with marketing emails sent through Dynamics 365 Marketing (Outbound or Real-time), not just any email with a link.

    Understanding the Limitations:

    • Dynamics 365 Marketing Integration: The "Email link clicked" trigger relies on Dynamics 365 Marketing's tracking and analytics capabilities. It needs the email to be sent from within the Marketing application for it to properly track link clicks.
    • Plain Emails: If you're sending emails from Outlook, Gmail, or even just plain Dataverse emails, the "Email link clicked" trigger won't work.

How to Achieve Your Goal (Workarounds):

    1. Dynamics 365 Marketing Emails (Recommended):

      • Send Email from Marketing: The most reliable way is to send your email from Dynamics 365 Marketing (Outbound or Real-time).
      • Use the "Email link clicked" Trigger: Then, the "Email link clicked" trigger in Power Automate will work as expected.

      • Advantages:

        • Seamless integration with Power Automate.
        • Accurate tracking of link clicks.
        • Provides comprehensive marketing analytics.

      • Considerations:

        • Requires a Dynamics 365 Marketing license.
        • Requires setting up marketing emails and journeys.

        •

    2. Use a Redirect Link and Webhook (Advanced):

      • Create a Redirect Link: Use a URL shortening service (like Bitly) or a custom web server to create a redirect link.
      • Set Up a Webhook: Configure the redirect link to call a webhook when it's clicked.
      • Power Automate HTTP Trigger: Create a Power Automate flow with an "When a HTTP request is received" trigger.

      • Advantages:

        • Works with any email client.
        • Provides more flexibility for custom actions.

      • Considerations:

        • Requires technical expertise to set up webhooks.
        • Requires a web server or URL shortening service.
        • You won't have the same level of tracking as with Dynamics 365 Marketing.

    3. Use a Custom App or Portal (Most Complex):

      • Host a Web Page: Create a web page that contains your link.
      • Log Clicks: Use JavaScript or server-side code to log clicks on the link.
      • Trigger Power Automate: Use an API or webhook to trigger your Power Automate flow.

      • Advantages:

        • Maximum control over the user experience and tracking.

      • Considerations:

        • Requires significant development effort.
        • Requires hosting infrastructure.

        •

    4.

Troubleshooting the "Email Link Clicked" Trigger:

    • Verify Email Source: Ensure the email was sent from Dynamics 365 Marketing.
    • Check Link Tracking: In Dynamics 365 Marketing, verify that link tracking is enabled for the email.
    • Test with a Simple Link: Try using a simple link (like https://www.google.com) to rule out issues with the link itself.
    • Review Trigger Configuration: Double-check the configuration of your "Email link clicked" trigger in Power Automate.

    •

    Key Recommendation:

    • Dynamics 365 Marketing Emails: If you have Dynamics 365 Marketing, this is the most effective and integrated solution.

By understanding the limitations and using the appropriate workarounds, you can successfully trigger a Power Automate flow when a link is clicked in your emails.
