Workflow approval not assigning, unable to view the approve dropdown after submission.

Hi
I have created a workflow and activated the workflow, I'm getting a option to submit the workflow, but after that there is no progress.
The workflow is not showing approve drop down. In view history the workflow action shows submission and work flow is activated. there is no error message.

Is there any setup I'm missing?

Few thing that you may want to check.

To start with. Do you have the 3 batch jobs enabled that process the workflow queues, work-items and workflow notifications?

    Hi,

As Shoaib mentioned, check the workflow batch jobs to ensure it is running. There is a possibility that the batch jobs exist but are in a withheld status. If so, change the status to Waiting and allow it to complete.

If you find no batch Jobs, you need to review the workflow configurations in the System Admin module.

    Hi
I see the batch jobs are showing the status waiting.

@waed there is nothing in approval work item tab, its blank. But I've assigned my name during the set up of work flow, still its not appearing.

Can you please tell if I'm missing any batch job?

Can you see when these workflow batch jobs executed last time. Some of those showing scheduled date time as of 30th July 2025 on your screenshot, which is a past date.

Could you please look into the reoccurrence schedule of these batch jobs and make sure these run frequently.

It is not going to generate any work-items, if these batch jobs are not running.

Are you working on Dev box? Make sure the batch service is running, also do you have admin security role? Or at least you have the workflow privileges to approve.

    Thanks,

    Please check below.

    • The assigned security role and company.

    • Who the approval is assigned to?

    • Go to Sysadmin > Workflow and review setting of menu itme 'Workflow Parameters' and 'Workflow Infrastructure Configuration'.

Compare these settings with a standard working environment to identify any differences

    Hi R Shetty,

You got several replies. Most likely the batch is not running is also my first thought. This because you only see in the workflow history that the workflow is activated. It does not end in an error and it does not create a work item for the approver.

For that reason, check the batch settings first . After that, when workflows end in an error, you can check for correct rules on assigning users and their security roles as mentioned by ssc121

It appears your workflow is successfully activated and allows
submission, but the approval step is not triggering as expected. This
issue commonly occurs when approvers are not properly assigned, workflow
transitions are misconfigured, or permission settings prevent the
approval step from appearing. First, verify that the approver(s)
designated in the workflow have the necessary permissions to review and
approve requests—specifically, they should have "Approve/Reject" rights.
Next, review the workflow design to ensure the approval step is
correctly placed after submission, with no missing or broken
transitions. If conditional logic is applied, test whether the criteria
are being met—sometimes, unexpected field values or validation rules can
halt progression. Additionally, check system logs for hidden errors, as
some platforms process workflows in the background without displaying
UI warnings. If the issue persists, simplify the workflow to a basic
submission-to-approval sequence to isolate the problem. Without knowing
your specific platform (e.g., SharePoint, Nintex, Salesforce), these
general steps should help identify gaps in your setup. Would you be able
to confirm which system you’re using? That would allow for more
    targeted guidance.

    Hi R Shetty,

Most likely, you will need to restart the batch service. If the issue persists, I recommend removing the workflow batch jobs and then rerunning them from System administration > Workflow > Workflow infrastructure configuration
