Does “Summary by Copilot” impact performance in Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations?

Environment: D365 Finance & Operations (cloud-hosted), standard forms, no custom Copilot extensions.
 

Hi all,

We recently noticed the “Summary by Copilot” panel appearing on several forms in Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations (for example, Production order).

From our observation:

 

  • The main form, grids, and navigation load normally, However, the Summary by Copilot panel shows a “Generating summary…” message and sometimes takes noticeable time to complete

  • Users are concerned that this may be contributing to perceived slowness

We would like to ask:


  1. Is Summary by Copilot fully asynchronous, meaning any delay is limited only to the Copilot panel itself?

  2. Does it have any impact on overall form loading or system performance?

  3. Is there a supported way to disable, hide, or control the Summary by Copilot feature at system or user level?

Any official guidance or shared experience would be appreciated.

    1. The summary is generating in the background. I think you are correct using the word perceived, the generating message may give the impression the form is loading slowly when it is not.
     
    2. There is no impact on system performance, the asynchronous way the summaries have been added is with the intention to have no impact on form loading and system performance at all.
     
    3. There are features which can be disabled, take a look at this article for the specific features and the process. I would urge caution though, Copilot is here to stay: https://anthonyblake.github.io/d365/finance/copilot/2024/07/08/d365-copilot-summary-feature.html
