Azure DevOps Pipelines using Power Platform Deploy Package and Database Synchronization in UDE

(0) ShareShare
ReportReport
Posted on by 10
  1. In Unified Development Environments (UDE), when a package is deployed through Azure DevOps Pipelines using Power Platform Deploy Package :
  2. Is database synchronization automatically executed as part of the deployment?
  3. Are SSRS reports automatically deployed as part of the package deployment?
  4. If not, what is the Microsoft-supported equivalent of:SyncEngine.exe
    • SyncEngine.exe
    • DeployAllReportsToSSRS.ps1
    • Is there any official document describing how database synchronization and report deployment are handled in UDE CI/CD scenarios?
  5. Can database Synchronization and Report Deploymnet be executed independently in UDE, or are they only supported through the deployment of a unified package?

    Hi

Yes, synchronization and report deployment were deployed as part of the deployment process.

    Thanks,
    Subra

    hi, Thank you.

Do you have any Microsoft documentation that confirms this behavior?

Specifically, I'm looking for official guidance confirming that database synchronization and SSRS report deployment are executed automatically as part of a Power Platform Deploy Package / Unified Package deployment in UDE.

    Thanks.

    Hi @Diana Afonso

Please check the below blog and let me know if you have any further clarifications.

    hi, Thank you.

    I've already reviewed that article.

My question is specifically about the deployment behavior after the package is deployed.

Can you point me to any Microsoft documentation that explicitly confirms:

    1. Database synchronization is automatically executed during deployment.

    2. SSRS reports are automatically deployed during deployment.

I'm trying to understand which UDE process replaces SyncEngine.exe and DeployAllReportsToSSRS.ps1 from CHE environments.

    Thanks.

    Hi

I haven't seen any blogs or docs where MS has mentioned like sync and deploy the reports will be triggered as part of the deployment.

Additionally, MS hasn't introduced any step or task for specically for sync with that said we can consider both the activity will be completed after the deployment.

    Thanks,
    Subra

    hi,
    Thank you.

    I was able to:
    - Build X++ successfully
    - Create a Deployable Package successfully
    - Connect to the UDE successfully

However, Power Platform Deploy Package fails with:

"Failed to Load the Import Configuration : Config File Missing"

Does Power Platform Deploy Package require a Power Platform Unified Package? If so, how should it be generated from the Create Deployable Package task?

    Thanks.

Yes, unified environments require unified packages. How to create one is described in the documentation mentioned above. Navigate to Create a pipeline to generate a Power Platform unified format package and read the first step, which mentions the Create Power Platform Unified Package checkbox used for this purpose.

    @martin Dráb

    Thank you Martin.

I found the "Create Power Platform Unified Package" option and enabled it.

However, package generation fails during XppCreatePackage with:

    - Could not load file or assembly 'System.Text.Json'
    - Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.IdentityModel.Clients.ActiveDirectory'

The regular deployable package is generated successfully, but the unified package generation fails.

Have you seen this issue before or are there any additional prerequisites required for Microsoft-hosted agents?

    Thanks.
