When setting up number sequences in Dynamics 365 F&O, I noticed two options in Scope are: Company and Legal Entity. Can someone explain the difference between these two options and provide scenarios for when to use each?

Most tables in F&O are "company-specific", i.e. the data is saved per company and you always see records just for the current company.

But some tables are shared across companies, therefore you can see the same data regardless of in which company you're currently in. It may be data that simply isn't related to companies, such as the configuration of mail servers. But it's also possible that the records are shared, but each has a field identifying a company that it's related to.

    Hi Raja,

Unfortunately, iy is very technical but let me try to simply explain.
Some tables store data per company. these table do have the company information. So when you select as company, when to create number sequence, you can select "Company" type.
Some tables are shared , so data on those tables do not have company information. But if you insist them to have a number sequence initials according to the company that is created, you need to select the "Legal Entitiy".

    Hi Ramit,
I'm finding this explanation too technical. Could you please provide a beginner-friendly explanation? I'm hoping someone on this forum can break it down in simpler terms.
    Thanks,
    Raja

Company—This option is used when a separate number sequence is used for each company. Use the Company scope when the underlying table includes the "DataAreaId" field, E.g., for the Customer Table.
Legal entity—This option is used when a separate number sequence is to be used for each legal entity. Use the Legal entity scope when the underlying table does not include the DataAreaId field, e.g., for the Expense Report.
