I am working with Dynamics 365 CRM on-premises and need assistance with configuring and using in-app notifications. Specifically, I would like to understand how to implement or use in-app notifications within the CRM system, or if this feature is supported. I am unsure how to set up notifications in the Assistant Panel or any other related features to display messages or alerts to users within the app.
I have the same question (0)

    CRM On-premises In-app Notification
    Hi,

In-app notifications are not natively supported in Dynamics 365 CRM (on-premises) to the same extent as they are in the online version, particularly when it comes to interactive notifications in the Assistant Panel or toast messages directly within the UI.
While some customization is possible using JavaScript, workflows, or Power Automate (for limited UI interactions), these methods are manual and require significant development effort.
To implement or use in-app notifications within the Dynamics 365 CRM system, you might consider using a solution like Alerts4Dynamics. It’s a third-party add-on that allows you to create and manage in-app notifications easily within Dynamics 365 CRM—including on-premises deployments.
    Here's how it helps:
    • Display alerts in multiple formats like pop-ups, form banners, or notification center panels.
    • Target specific users, roles, or teams, ensuring the right audience gets the message.
    • Schedule alerts for specific dates or recurring intervals.
    • No need for heavy coding (more of plug and play tool) —alerts can be configured using a simple UI.
So, if you're looking for an efficient way to implement user-specific alerts and notifications without complex coding, Alerts4Dynamics is a good fit for your on-premises CRM setup.

    Thanks!

    CRM On-premises In-app Notification
In-app notifications are really just another record in another table in CRM (Notification (appnotification) table/entity reference (Microsoft Dataverse) - Power Apps | Microsoft Learn), so as long as you can create a record and format it properly you should be good to go. I don't see why they would not work on-premise, though creating them without Power Automate may take a little more work.

The above link is a great resource for you to see what details are needed to send a notification, and how it can be configured. You could probably make it work through an API call to create a record, a plugin, or maybe even a standard workflow to add a record based on a standard trigger.

I will also put a plug out there for the XRM Toolbox In-App Notification Builder tool. It's a great way to get some assistance in building the code for your actions and message when creating your notification.

Thanks Daivat Vartak For your replay, but any way to add custom action cards manually or API to can see it in the assistant panel?

    CRM On-premises In-app Notification
    Hello AS-09030705-0,

You're looking to leverage in-app notifications within Dynamics 365 CRM on-premises, which can be a valuable way to keep users informed. Here's a breakdown of how it works and what you need to know:

    Understanding In-App Notifications in Dynamics 365 On-Premises:

    • Assistant Panel:

      • The Assistant Panel, also known as the Relationship Assistant, is a primary way to display in-app notifications.
      • It provides proactive insights and action cards to users based on data and configurations.

    • In-App Notifications (Modern):

      • The modern in-app notification system (bell icon) is heavily reliant on the online infrastructure. While some basic functionality might be available, the full breadth of the online in-app notifications are not available on prem.

    • On-Premises Limitations:

      • On-premises deployments have limitations compared to online environments, especially regarding cloud-based features like AI-driven notifications.
      • The full capabilities of the modern in-app notification system might not be available.

      •

    •

    Implementing In-App Notifications (Assistant Panel):

    1. Action Cards:

      • The Assistant Panel primarily uses action cards to display notifications.
      • These cards are generated based on insights and rules.

      • Insights:

        • Dynamics 365 on-premises can use built-in insights or custom insights.
        • These insights are evaluated based on data and generate action cards.

      • Create Action Cards:

        • While you cannot create action cards in the same way that you can in the online environment, the system will create action cards based on the data. For example, if an activity is due soon, an action card may be created.

        •

    2. Server-Side Synchronization:

      • Ensure that server-side synchronization is properly configured for emails and appointments.
      • This is essential for the Assistant Panel to display relevant information.

      •

    3. Security Roles:

      • Verify that users have the necessary security roles to access the Assistant Panel and view action cards.

      •

    4. Custom Development (Plugins/Workflows):

      • For more complex or custom notification scenarios, you can use plugins or workflows.

      • Plugins:

        • Develop custom plugins to trigger notifications based on specific events or conditions.
        • Plugins can create or update records that are used by the Assistant Panel.

      • Workflows:

        • Use workflows to automate notification processes.
        • Workflows can send emails or create records that trigger action cards.

        •

    5. Auditing:

      • Ensure that auditing is enabled. This will help with tracking changes, and could help to trigger action cards.

    6.

    Key Considerations:

    • On-Premises Limitations: Be aware of the limitations of in-app notifications in on-premises deployments.
    • Customization: Custom development is often required for advanced notification scenarios.
    • Testing: Thoroughly test your notification configurations and customizations.

    •

    Important Notes:

    • The modern in-app notification bell icon will have limited functionality on prem.
    • The Assistant Panel is the primary way to display in app notifications on prem.

    •

By following these guidelines, you can effectively implement in-app notifications in your Dynamics 365 CRM on-premises environment.
