Remove transform of links in customer insights email

(3) ShareShare
ReportReport
Posted on by 14
Hi. We have a weekly newsletter email that is sent out with customer insights journeys.
It contains various links, eg links to publicly accessible sharepoint files, other websites.
The links in the emails are being transformed with prefix https://public-oce.mkt.dynamics.com/api/orgs/...
Is there a way to selectively remove the transform for particular links. So the url in the recipients email client would just be https://company.sharepoint.com/filename for example?
Reason is the transform is causing issues with some links for our recipients.
I have the same question (0)

Good morning, afternoon, or evening :) depending on your location!
    Hope you are well today.

To address the issue of link transformation in Dynamics 365 Customer Insights - Journeys, here's what you can do:
Steps to Selectively Remove Link Transformation:
    1. Mark Links as Non-Trackable:
      • In the email editor, identify the links you want to exclude from tracking.
      • Use the option to mark these links as "non-trackable." This prevents the system from transforming the links into trackable URLs with the https://public-oce.mkt.dynamics.com/api/orgs/... prefix.
    2. Disable Link Tracking for Specific Links:
      • If marking links as non-trackable isn't available in your version, consider disabling link tracking for the entire email. However, this will apply to all links in the email, so use this option cautiously.
    3. Use Custom HTML:
      • If you're comfortable with HTML, you can manually insert the desired links into the email content without relying on the default link transformation mechanism.
      • Ensure that the links are formatted correctly and tested for functionality.
    4. Test the Email:
      • Before sending the newsletter, test the email with the updated links to ensure they appear as intended in the recipient's email client.
    5. Consult Documentation:
    6. Consider Real-Time Journeys:
      • If you're transitioning to Real-Time Journeys, explore its capabilities for managing link tracking and customization. This module may offer more flexibility for handling such scenarios.

    Hope this helps!

    Hello EC-08040557-0,

Yes, you can selectively prevent Customer Insights - Journeys (CIJ) from wrapping specific links in your newsletter emails with the https://public-oce.mkt.dynamics.com/api/orgs/... prefix. This prefix is part of CIJ's link tracking and redirection mechanism, which is used to gather click analytics.

To bypass this tracking for particular links, you need to mark them as "Do not track" within the CIJ email editor. Here's how you can do it:

Steps to Prevent Link Tracking for Specific Links:

    1. Open Your Newsletter Email in the CIJ Editor: Navigate to your weekly newsletter email within Customer Insights - Journeys and open it for editing.

    2. Select the Link You Want to Exclude: Click on the specific link (the text or image that is hyperlinked) that you want to prevent from being tracked.

    3. Access Link Properties: In the email editor's toolbar or properties pane (the exact location might vary slightly depending on the editor version), you should find options to edit the link. Look for something like:

      • Link options
      • Edit link
      • A button that looks like a chain link.

    4. Find the "Do not track" Option: Within the link properties dialog or pane, you should see a checkbox or a toggle switch labeled something like:

      • Do not track this link
      • Include for tracking (in which case you would uncheck it)
      • Track clicks (in which case you would untoggle it)

    5. Enable "Do not track": Check the "Do not track this link" option (or the equivalent).

    6. Save Your Changes: Once you've marked the specific link as "Do not track," save your changes to the email.

    7.

    How it Works:

When you mark a link as "Do not track," CIJ's email sending engine will bypass the link wrapping process for that specific URL. The recipient will receive the email with the original URL (https://company.sharepoint.com/filename, for example) directly embedded in the href attribute of the <a> tag.

    Important Considerations:

    • Loss of Click Tracking: By marking a link as "Do not track," you will lose the ability to track clicks on that specific link within your CIJ email insights. You won't see how many recipients clicked on it in your journey or email statistics. Only use this option for links where click tracking is not important.
    • Consistency: Ensure that you consistently apply the "Do not track" setting to all instances of the specific links you want to exclude from tracking within your newsletter.
    • Testing: Always send a test email to yourself (and ideally to a few internal recipients who have experienced the issues) to verify that the links you've marked as "Do not track" appear in their original format in the email client.
    • Reason for the Transform: Understand that the link transform is there for a reason – to provide valuable click analytics within your marketing efforts. Only bypass it when absolutely necessary due to compatibility issues for your recipients.

    •

In summary, to selectively remove the https://public-oce.mkt.dynamics.com/... prefix from specific links in your CIJ newsletter emails, you need to find the "Do not track this link" option within the link properties in the email editor and enable it for those specific URLs. Remember that doing so will prevent click tracking for those links.

    Hi
Thank you for that help. For some reason when I first started testing, disabling do not track for certain links wasn't resulting in the transform being removed. But now I've gone back and tried again its working and the links don't have the marketing wrapper/transform.
    Regards
