Warehouse shipment and Qty to Ship

Hi All,

I have a customer that wants to use warehouse shipments since they have multiple locations and it works great creating multiple shipments from one sales order to each branch.

We do not use PICKING though, only the shipments, but I cannot figure out how I can configure BC to default the QTY to ship to the qty available / in stock. Ie customer wants 50 but they only have 10, or they might have a line on the order that will just be a backorder, the want the qty to ship to default to 0.

Any advice?

Debbie

    Hi,

I don't believe that this is configurable and will require development.  When you create the warehouse pick that is the document that determines what you have available and once that is registered it will fill in the qty to ship.

    Thanks,
    Shauna

I think this needs to be customized. The default will be the Sales Order quantity, and then the warehouse staff can modify the Qty to Ship.
If you need the Qty to Ship to default to 0, this requires some simple customization.

    Hope this helps.
    Thanks.

Thanks for the feedback everyone - I needed to stick to what was originally planned and that is to do a pick as well. This is just best practice and cleaner process.

    Hi Debbie,

In standard Business Central, when you don’t use Picks, the "Qty. to Ship" on Warehouse Shipments must be filled manually — the system doesn’t automatically suggest what's available.

To achieve the behavior you're describing (e.g. auto-fill Qty. to Ship with available inventory or default to 0 when not available), you'd typically need to customize the logic behind warehouse shipment creation — likely by extending the codeunit or page that creates the shipment lines to check item availability and set Qty. to Ship accordingly.

Since this is not available out of the box, I’d recommend working with your Microsoft partner to implement a small AL extension that handles this logic based on availability.

✅ Mark this answer as verified if it helps you.

This will be a quick customization to handle if you just wish to put in the quantity available in the location.
You can instruct the user to showcase them the availability and then let them enter what they want if that helps.
