Editable grid and lookup fields

Hello,

I have a editable grid and one of the fields in this grid is a lookup back to the account.  Is there a way I can point just this lookup field in the subgrid to some other field on the Account table?

On the form where this lookup field sits, I have the view pointing to the field on the account that I want and that works fine.  Just doesn't seem to work in the subgrid.

Please let me know, thank you.
I have the same question (0)

Can you clarify for us what you mean by "pointing it" to some other field? Lookup fields always show the primary column of the target table when a record is selected (such as Account Name). Search fields for a lookup are defined on the Quick Find system view for the target table.

Sure, for a lookup field on the Quote Product table, I have it looking back to the Account table, however the view that it is using to pull the records are being filtered to what I want and it only has 1 field in the view called Concatenated Account Name.   This is all working correctly on the form, but what isn't working is when this field is in a subgrid on the quote form.  There it shows the Account Name of the record and not the concatenated account name field.

Hope that helps to clarify things.

It does, thank you. Unfortunately, I don't believe the editable grid gives any option on a lookup field other than the primary column (account name) to be chosen. You can probably achieve this with a custom PCF control. Note that the searching should still work by Account Number, provided you have added the field as a search column in your Account Quick Find system view.

I know I've seen lots of questions around Account Numbers on here recently. have you thought about using this Account Number value in place of the Account name, and then adding a nickname field to the form otherwise? You can also of course show the Account number field from the chosen record through a formula field on the grid once an option has been selected.

In an editable grid, lookup fields default to showing the primary name field (Account Name). To display a different field from the Account table, try these options:

    1. Quick View Form → Add a Quick View Form to show the desired field.

    2. Custom Field + Workflow → Create a text field and auto-fill it using Power Automate.

    3. Modify Lookup View → Add the required field as an extra column in the lookup view.

    4. JavaScript → Use a script to filter or display the desired field dynamically.
If my response is helpful, please mark it as Verified.

    Thank you!
