Project - cost credit instead of debit

Hello everyone,

I'm having an issue when posting a project expense transaction. The main account that I expect to be debited is instead credited. I have no clue what may cause this. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Here you can see the posted costs and revenue based on the project transactions. As you can see the gross margin in the project statement is incorrect because the cost is credited instead of debited.

This is the voucher of a project expense journal line. As you can see the line of type "Project - cost" is credited.

Thanks in advance!

    hello Thomas

can you share your project accounting setup?

Also, can you let us know what ax2012 version you operate and whether modifications in regards to project postings have been implemented?

    many thanks

    Hi Ludwig,

First of all thank you for trying to help me out and excuse me for the late response.

What project accounting setup are you exactly looking for? Here's the ledger posting setup together with the main account setup:

The AX version is the following. This is an AX environment with quite some customization but not in the project postings.

    Hi Thomas,

    Many thanks for the update.

Is it possible that the issue with the negative amount is the result of a customization that has been made?

Do you see the same issue if you open the project statement form in a different demo or test environment?

To me, it looks like a 'display issue'.

If you have a developer around, ask him/her whether he/she can have a quick look at this.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

I have the same issue in D365, did you find a solution?

    Good Morning Kumar,

I have not heard something back from Thomas here.

Have you found something on the d365 forum?

If this is not the case can you possibly create a new thread there and share some information about your exact system version and share some screenprints plus replication steps?

    Many thanks,

    Ludwig

    Hello Ludwig & Kumar,

The issue in our AX2012 is solved by one of our developers. This occurred in a very customized environment so most probably this was a customization bug.

@Kumar: I have also seen the debit/credit bug in a Dynamics 365 environment of another client. I have logged this at Microsoft and it should be solved in the 10.0.11 release.

    Hope this helps.

    Stay safe!

I noticed one thing in D365 though. If you update the resource and description fields and overwrite the existing line by saying yes, you can post a credit. This worked for me. Not a good solution but may be a workaround. It also produces proper accounting distribution which was the main issue.
