ReportReport
Posted on by 350

I want to create an overview for all items, like this (image below), either in PowerBI, in XLS or directly in BC.

Periods adjustable, or from today, 10M+ into the future.

nice to have: filters for location, etc.

How should I approach this?

    Hello,

Out of the box, there is nothing that will create the image above. Yes, you can create a report (extension). I would say using Power BI or Jet Reports will pull and create the information easily. I am attaching a Jet report example but you'll need to modify to meet the report columns you want. It gives you an idea.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks,

    Steve

Agree with Steve. External report package is the winner here. It’s not got your exact illustration but it’s very close: appsource.microsoft.com/.../pubid.nca_dynamics|aid.powerbi_essentials_sales|pappid.24909c1f-ea8d-4629-aec9-828bb5256767

Free app on appsource. Might be a good starting point at least on how it’s been done with Power BI

Power BI would be your best option, imho.

Create some query objects that expose the data, for example for tables: Item, Item Ledger Entry (or other), expose them as web services, import in PBI, create star/snowflake data model and visualize in a matrix. Once you publish the PBI report to the PBI service, you can use the Analyze in Excel to even visualize in Excel using a  pivot.

    Thanks Steven!

i managed to get it all in powerBI and to "Atomize" all items by "unfolding" them several times with left joining the BOM-Components table several times.

now the struggle is to get a running total measure into the matrix view, but this is at least PowerBI internal :)

looking into star/snowflake data model  next :)
