GP 2018.4 and SQL 2014 SP3

Hi folks, long time lurker first time poster.

We are currently running GP 2018.4  and SQL 2014 SP2 both on separate WS2016 VMs.   We would like to upgrade to SQL 2014 SP3... Haven't been able to find any real information from MS or our GP vendor who only sends over the original requirements doc which really only lists SQL2014 in the "cheat sheet" portion concerning the versions.

Also I would like to confirm - moving to 18.5 will require SQL 2016 so we may just bite the bullet and pay the cost to upgrade our licensing...

Thank you for your time and your responses,

Chris F

GP is not specific when it comes to services packs for SQL.

GP 18.5 works with SQL 2022, 2019, 2017 and 2016. SQL 2014 has been dropped.

Richard thanks so much for your answer - is there any link I can review showing that SP3 is OK for short term?

    Thank you,

    Chris

I have seen old links from internal Microsoft people stating no issues with SQL service packs. The main issue is in the version checking. It checks which version of SQL not which service pack. Perhaps one of them will confirm.

Rarely have we seen issues with Dynamics GP and service packs/patches for SQL Server.

The issue more is making sure you have Dynamics GP on a 'supported' version of SQL Server per the system requirements, because GP Utilities does do a version check of SQL and will keep you from being able to do an upgrade, create a company database, etc.

As Richard mentioned, SQL 2014 is not a 'supported' version for use with Dynamics GP 18.x, whether it be 18.0, 18.2, 18.3, 18.4 or 18.5. >> learn.microsoft.com/.../MDGP2018_System_Requirements

Please let us know if you have any questions.

    Thanks

Hi Derek thank you for your reply.  That same links lists it as OK up to 18.4 -

    1. Here is a cheat sheet for SQL versions and what is supported per Dynamics GP version:

    • GP 2013 supports SQL 2014, 2012 and 2008
    • GP 2015 supports SQL 2014 and 2012
    • GP 2016 supports SQL 2016, 2014 and 2012
    • GP 2018 supports SQL 2017, 2016 and 2014
    • GP 18.2 and later supports SQL 2019 plus SQL 2017, 2016 and 2014
    • GP 18.5 (October 2022 Release) supports SQL 2022, 2019, 2017 and 2016

We are going to do the right thing and hope to jump up to a newer version of SQL in the near future.

    Thank you,

    Chris
