Hello

I have made the end user as system  administrator but still when i try to post a movement journal which has a workflow, i keep getting the error,

"Stopped (error): X++ Exception: Failed to create a session; confirm that the user has the proper privileges to log on to Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations.
 at SysWorkflowDocument-assert

its a stand workflow without any customizations, and the approver is a user group created in system administration module.

    Hi Naveen,

This issue usually occurs due to one of the following reasons:

    1. The user does not have the required security roles.

    2. The user is not added as an approver in the workflow.

Since you confirmed that the user already has the System Administrator role, it is likely the second case. Please verify that the user is added to the appropriate user group, and that the same group is assigned in the workflow. If there are multiple approval levels, kindly check all levels.

If possible, please share screenshots of the user group and workflow approval setup for reference.

    Regards,

    Deivendiran P

    Hey

Does this user is able to login D365 F&O?

If yes, can you first try clearing the usage data -
    Clear Usage Data
    • Go to System Administration > Users > Options > Usage Data and clear it for the affected user
Also, try to replicate the same access to other users and try again if this issue persists for other accounts as well.

    Hi,
How many users are there in that User group? Do all those user have sufficient permissions?

And make sure that user is enabled in users master.

    Regards,
    Neeraj

    Hi

    Check that

When a user is configured as a system administrator, the workflow runs under the context (or owner) defined in the workflow settings. If the user or the owner of the workflow does not have a privilege to create sessions or access the data involved in the workflow process, you will see this error. To resolve this issue, first, confirm that the workflow owner has the proper privilege settings, or edit the workflow settings to run it as the owner with full access. Be sure to check the approver user group security roles associated with the workflows actions. This is a typical permission issue related to the workflow execution

If you feel answer is helpful , please verify the answer

    Thanks
    Nimsara

    Hi,
your question has some conflicting information. As start it say, you have made the user system admin, towards the end, it says that you have added user to a user group.
If the user has system administration security role assigned, such a user should not get this error.
Could you explain a bit more about the user, which security roles roles this users has ?

    Hi @Naveen,

I am bit surprised with 1 article
It was raised by you only, same query 6 years back for R3 and also verified.

Please try the same suggestion here and let us know the result.

    Hi Naveen,

Can you clarify if the end user you are referring to is the single user that will be allocated to the work item for approval? Please tell more about the user group and its members. All the users that will be allocated to a work item for approval should have the correct workflow permissions.

You can read more about workflow security on my blog: Workflow security in Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations - Dynamicspedia

PS the reply from Nimsara is not correct in the context of Microsoft Dynamics 365 F&O. The workflow processing job runs with the user as specified on the batch job. As explained in my blog, the system is checking for the correct permissions of the approvers. If not, the error you are facing is raised.

     Dear All

    thank you for the inputs,

the workflow is using groups (11.jpg) and user groups is also the standard one (12.jpg).

The workflow was working fine until we performed the upgrade to Installed platform version : Update66 (7.0.7452.86), other that that no changes are done either to workflow configurations or setup or user permissions

that is why i was wondering if the upgrade triggered any new changes,

let me go through the suggestions one by one and try out
