Upgrade Visual Studio in Azure DEV VM after upgrading to PU36 or PU37 D365F&O

Hi everyone,

It has been observed that if we download the latest VHD from LCS of PU36 the Visual Studio 2017 is already preconfigured into it.

Now I have one Azure DEV VM which is on PU35 and I have to upgrade it to PU37.

1. So do I need to upgrade the Visual Studio from 2015 to 2017 version? Can anyone share the reference links for upgrading to VS2017?

2. Can we configure it without admin rights?

3. What will happen if I continue my development on VS2015?

Thank you in advance.

    Hi Rhushikesh,

Sounds like the DEV VM you are talking about does is the one provided by D365 subscription and you don't have admin rights in the box.

If you don't have admin rights, I don't think it will let you install VS 2017. It will be be a better option to delete this VM and deploy a new one which will come pre-configured with VS 2017.

    Hi Rhushikesh,

I recommend to re-deploy a new VM in any case to avoid unexpected issues caused by manual install in the future.

Also, please, check receint related thread and what Joris mentioned about depreciation of VS 2015

You have to log support ticket with Microsoft to get VS2017 installed.

Please do not log a support ticket. You need to deploy a new VM with PU37/10.0.13 and it will have VS2017 preinstalled.
