Financial Dimension AX 2009

Hi All,

Our client wants to add financial dimension in AX 2009.

As I know, the number of financial dimension in AX 2009 is three, and additional dimension can be added after purchasing license until the maximum 10.

(Is it correct?)

I'd like to know there is any other way to add financial dimension except purchasing license?

Thanks.

    Hi Daniel,

Like Ludwig mentioned, the license is stating 6. If you thought to have 4 additional, check the purchasing contracts and also check if you have installed the most recent license file.

Hello Daniel, In the screen I read the number 6. Yet, you can try if you can setup a seventh one. Before creating them double check with your accountants that you really need them. In later versions you can setup more then 7 findims and many times I see people setting up new findims and 'abuseing' them for other things. That is something you should avoid. 5 or 6 findims is what I would consider ok but why do you need 7 or even more findims? Best regards, Ludwig

    Hi Ludwig,

Do I have 3 additional dimensions, not 4?

I thought I had 4 additional dimensions because the number of default is 3 and I had 7 total.

    Thanks.

Hi, Looks as if you already have 3 additional findims. Just check out in a demo/test environment whether you can follow the next steps for adding additional findims community.dynamics.com/.../adding-new-financial-dimensions-in-axapta-2009 Best regards, Ludwig

    Thanks for kind reply.

I want to ask this first, as I checked the license information, the Dimension node shows 6.

And Dimension EDT has 7 elements. Then can we still make 2 new dimensions?

How can I accept the license information? does the number of license for dimension include default number of dimension: (3)?

Or does it include just newly available number of dimension(not include default dimension)?

    Please refer to follow images.

    Hello Daniel,

Is this issue still open or have you found an alternative/workaround?

Would be great if you could keep us updated.

    Many thanks,

    Ludwig

If you have captured data at the lowest level then you can in principle aggregate data anyway you want by defining the hierarchy in MR.

If you want P@L reporting by a field then you probably need a financial dimension. If not then there are probably other ways to do it.

    Hello Daniel Lee,

Well, you do not necessarily have to use a financial dimension if you want to analyze data.

Depending on the nature of the transactions that you want to analyze you could - for example - use automatic descriptions or reason codes as an alternative.

Whether those standard features are really alternatives depends on your concrete requirement.

Another thing that can also help avoiding the purchase of additional findims are cubes/BI tools.

Yet, also here we would need more information on the nature of the transaction and the data you plan to analyze.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig
