Hello!
I'm working with a company that just started using the GP fixed assets module. The company would like to be able to pull an asset like a computer out of service and "pause" deprecation. IE: They would like to stop deprecation calculations, as well as pause the life of the asset as well.
I'm aware this isn't necessarily acceptable under GAAP, but it is something the company would like to do, as it has been doing it with their previous FA program.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Hello JadenFin,
My name is Brandon. I am an Engineer on the Microsoft GP Support Team and would like to provide you with possible options to stop Depreciation on an Asset.
I see two possible options. However, once you start to depreciate the Asset again, it will go back and pick up the Depreciation from the previous periods that were skipped.
Option 1: You can set the Book record of the Asset to no Depreciation. This will stop it from Depreciating. Once you want it to start depreciating again, you will need to change the Depreciation Method back to a method that is No Depreciation.
Option 2: Create a group of the Assets you want to Depreciate. Exclude the Assets you dont want to depreciate from this group. You can then use the group to Depreciate instead of Depreciating all Assets.
I hope this helps!
