Error creating an Azure Synapse Link in PowerApps to link Dataverse with Azure Synapse Datalake

Hello Community,

I am trying to create a synapse link in PowerApps

I followed all the required pre-requisites for permissions:

1. Storage Blob Contributor and Storage Blob Owner permission on the Storage Account / DataLake

2. Synapse Administrator access on the Synapse Studio

3. User Administrator access on the subscription

4. System Adminitrator role on the Dataverse Environment (Power Platform)

Networking:
1. The Synapse workspace can accept connection from all IP addresses and all azure resources

2. The Storage account accepts connection from all IP addresses as well

Note: This is a tier 1 environment

I click on New Link, enter the required Subscription, and Synapse workspace, select the required Spark Pool, and then select the required tables.
Once I click on Save button, I get the below error. Has some had a similar issue in the past? Any guidance or tips are highly appreciated!

Error:
403: https://athenawebservice.eca-il101.gateway.prod.island.powerapps.com/environment/<environmentId>/createfilesystem. Unable to access storage account. This may be transient as permissions for the application may need time to propagate. Please wait for some time and try again later. If the issue persists, please ensure the storage account is on a network accessible by our service and you have the correct role access as described in our documentation.

I've seen this a few times, and normally it resolve itself.

However, you might be missing a role; Have you assigned the "RBAC Administrator" role to your account for the storage account and analytics workspace?

Normally during provisioning it will add additional accounts to either the storage account or synapse analytics workspace. This might be what is broken.

Edit: Did not see your mention of Tier-1 (CHE) environments. As André mentions, please try to provision using Tier-2 environment.

Hi AK2,

The Azure Synapse Link works for Dataverse and Tier2+ or F&O environments created via PPAC. It does not support Tier 1 environments.

If you have a Power Platform environment having a Dataverse storage, the basic link should work possible including virtual tables, but it will not be able to sync tables directly from the Tier1 F&O environment.

Thank you @Andre & @Jones for your response.

I was finally able to resolve this issue.
My account was missing the Owner permission on the Storage Account/DataLake and the Synapse Workspace. Once I granted those permissions, I was able to setup the connection.

I thought, since I created the account, I was be the owner of the accounts by default, but it was not the case. It might be restrictions or policies from my company I guess.

I am not very clear with the limitations pointed out by you @Andre, Is there any article I can refer to?
I was able to see the data in Synapse and Datalake.

I was able to create the link with Storage Account/DataLake only when the storage account is public. Is there a way where can disable the public access and use private endpoint for the link? any alternative?
