Dynamics AX in Azure / Costs

Hi there,

i've created my first Dynamics AX in Azure (via LCS). It was created with a 4 core, 28 GB memory machine. The question is if there are any special prices in the plan, because otherwise this would be really expensive...

    Hi,

there is no special pricing, the conditions of your subscription that you used for the azure connect will apply. The Dynamics Team is just supplying the templates and mechanisms to deploy in azure. Princing and operations is within the Microsoft Azure authority.

So always rmember to stop the VM when you don't Need them.

Michael is right, from what I gathered a "decent" AX machine will cost you around € 500 / month in Europe, but only if you leave it running all the time. If you make sure you stop it when you don't need it, it's "pay as you go", in this case € 0.50 / hour, which becomes resonnable...

I was told you needed to add the "storage" cost to that, but could not find the detail, anyone knows how much this is ?

When I was looking right the AX R3 demo deployment uses around 500 GB storage, this will lead to around 25$ storage cost/month. In Addition will come also the traffic for outgoing bandwidth, but this compared to the VM costs no more worth to talk about.

    Hi,

If you are only using it to test AX2012 R3, you can downgrade it to an A5 (2 x .1.6GHz, 14GB Ram). That'll be half the price of A6 (the default configuration.)

You can stop the VM when you are not using it. That'll also release the IP associate with the cloud service. Again, if it's for testing then it should be of no concern.

Consider changing the storage from Geo redundant (default) to Locally redundant to further reduce cost.

Then it makes no sense to me. We thought about storing development machines in the cloud. In general I have at least three dev systems started at the same time and i never stop one, the costs would be way to hight.

I'd say no one stops an ax system. I switch between different systems x-times a day. And in the night they do sync, compile and xref. So for dev it makes no sense.

And in general the costs are way to high. For €500/month (makes 12.000€ in 2 years) we can buy a lot of vm hosts... who invented that price model :)

I will close the thread now, because it is answered correctly.
