How to renew the evaluation license expiring on local development VMs for Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations development VHDs?

Hi All.

I believe Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations development VHDs come with a Windows evaluation license for 180 days.

If this license is about to expire, how can I renew the evaluation period?

Also how can i check the number of days left for expiration of it?

Can somebody explain with above questions in detail?

Please help!!

you can renew again for 60 days by running slmgr.vbs -rearm command on elevated command prompt.

Hi,

As Amith suggested you can renew the evaluation, i am adding some more details here:

First you need to Open Command Prompt with administrative privileges.

>slmgr /rearm

The rearm command resets activation timers, which essentially lets you use Windows without activating it by extending the trial to 180 days.

after run this command you need to to restart your computer to see the changes.

>slmgr /dlv

This command for slmgr.vbs shows a lot more information about your computer and Display additional license information. .

Pay attention to the Timebased activation expiration and the Remaining Windows rearm count.

However, if you need to convert Evaluation to Full Version.

Convert Windows Server 2019 Evaluation to Windows Server 2019 Standard:

>dism /online /set-edition:ServerStandard /productkey: XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXXX-XXXXXX /accepteula

Hi @AsifAli,

Thank you for such detailed explaination. I have extended evaluation to 180 days. After that i ran this command : >slmgr /dlv.

It SHows :

The Timebased activation expiration : 259034 min(s) (180day(s)).

Remaining Windows rearm count : 1.

Not sure what Remaining Windows rearm count means? Can you pls explain this?

ALso in the last section you mentioned if i need to convert Windows Server 2019 Evaluation to Windows Server 2019 Standard, Then :

>dism /online /set-edition:ServerStandard /productkey: XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXXX-XXXXXX /accepteula

Im not sure what this means too? Will it further allow me to use the VM after the 180 days?

We are glad to hear that, your issue has been resolved.

Remaining Windows rearm count : 1

Remaining rearm count shows that how nay times you can rearm the evaluation version,

Remaining Windows rearm count : 0

Then you must have to convert your evaluation to Full version (if you have License Key) with command:

dism /online /set-edition:ServerStandard /productkey: XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXXX-XXXXXX /accepteula

Hello AxBoy,

Asif is right. The only components you will have to take care about after you upgrade the evaluation license are the integration components and the services (AosService, BatchManagement and the Data Management, Management Reporter).

Restart the machine and the required services, once you are done upgrading the license. Upgrading the license breaks some of these services.
