I'm having trouble identifying the issue with the anchor links in my email. They work perfectly in browsers and on desktop email clients, but not in the Outlook mobile app—which is what most of our recipients use. When clicking a link on mobile, it just jumps to a seemingly random section instead of the intended anchor.
Anyone had this issue as well and found a solution?
Good morning, afternoon, or evening depending on your location! This is a common issue with anchor links in emails when viewed in the Outlook mobile app. The app often struggles with handling anchor links due to its limited support for certain HTML features. Here’s how you can address this: Potential Solutions:
Use Full URLs Instead of Anchors:
Replace anchor links (e.g., #section1) with full URLs that point to the specific section on a web page. This ensures compatibility across all devices.
Test with Different Email Clients:
While Outlook mobile may not fully support anchors, other mobile email clients might. Test your email in multiple clients to identify the best approach for your audience.
Add a Table of Contents:
If anchors are essential, consider adding a table of contents at the top of the email with links to the respective sections. This can improve navigation even if anchors don’t work perfectly.
Simplify Email Design:
Complex HTML structures can sometimes cause issues. Simplify the email’s code and test again.
Encourage Web View:
Include a “View in Browser” link at the top of the email. This allows recipients to open the email in a browser where anchors will work as intended.
Check for Updates:
Ensure the Outlook app is updated to the latest version, as updates may improve HTML rendering.
If these steps don’t resolve the issue, you might need to adjust your email design strategy to accommodate the limitations of the Outlook mobile app. Hope this helps some!
