Financial dimensions: how to change the source

Hi everyone!

I've encountered a problem of changing the financial dimensions' data source. We are implementing D365 step by step and right now we don't have all the tables that are going to be used as a source of dimensions' values.

The question is: can I create a custom financial dimension, use it for a while and eventually create a new table (or, let's say, decide to use the existing one - it doesn't matter) and change the type of this financial dimension by choosing "use values from"?

I would be very grateful to you for any tip!

    Hi Kseniya,

You should take it to consideration that, you cannot change an active financial dimension from < Custom dimension >to entity-backed dimensions.

Please check Microsoft docs for more info: docs.microsoft.com/.../financial-dimensions

    Hi Kseniya,

This is not supported. In case of custom dimension values, the record ID references for the values are different compared to record ID references in case of an entity backed dimension.

You can only create a new dimension and replace the old one by changing setup in dimensions and account structures.

    Hi,

    This is not supported.

You can do one thing, once you get source create new dimension and use that and deactivate other on which is custom dimension.

Change accounting structure to new one where ever it was mapped.

    Hi Kseniya,

If you start with a financial dimension A, create postings and want to change the dimension then you can create a new one (financial dimension B), add it to your account structures and continue working. All what has been posted to financial dimension A would have to be subsequently transferred to dimension B by means of correction/adjustment vouchers that you record.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig
