Hi,

When customer data is unifed in customer insights , is there are way to view which source records were used to create the golden record. In an implementation the customer is asking for the avalaiblity of data lineage feature in customer insights.

i have looked in data conflation tables and deduplication tables. is there any way to source the data from data conflation tables to my PowerBI report, other than export ( looking forward for my BI developer to connect to the tables directly  and create a report )

Thanks!

    Hi partner,
    Now, you can use one preview feature--Power BI connector:
    Create visualizations for your data with the Microsoft Power BI Desktop. Generate additional insights and build reports with your unified customer data.

    I hope you can verify my answer if it helps you! If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
    Regards,
    Leah

    Hi,

    The PowerBI connector is not visible in the PowerBI. How can we get the connector?

    Thanks!

    Hi Partner,
    Not in the Customer Insights-Data App, you should access it in the Power BI Desktop:

    Hi,

    I am able to connect, but it seems that only DeDups tables are visible. Conflation tables are visible in PowerBI, any Ideas? How can i source conflation tables?

    Hi Ajaz,

    As per best of my knowledge, Microsoft Customer Insights doesn't offer a built-in feature for tracking data lineage to view specific source records used in creating golden records. However, you can explore the option of having your BI developer connect directly to the data conflation and deduplication tables to build a custom Power BI report showing data lineage. Keep in mind that this approach might require permissions and an understanding of your data architecture. To get the latest information or any new features related to data lineage, I'd recommend checking Microsoft's documentation or contacting their support.

    Kind regards,
    Farhad Malegam - Technical Director

    Yes, Customer Insights - Data provides data lineage.
    When your source data is unified, the resulting unified customer profile table will have columns that show you every record that came together to form the unified profile.

    Assume you have the following source data tables and matching records that come together to form a unified profile:

    Table_A: Rows 1 and 2 are matched and deduplicated. Row 2 selected as the 'Winner'.
    Table_B: Row 10
    Table C: Row 100

    Assuming these rows are all matched by the rules you defined using some combination of fields such as email, phone, name, whatever....)
    Then the resulting fields in the Customer profile row that track lineage would look like this:

    CustomerId = <guid>
    Table_A.<primarykey>: 2
    Table_A.<primarykey>_Alternate: 2,1        [the _Alternate rows show the winner and non-winner records from that table.]
    Table_B.<primarykey>: 10
    Table_B.<primarykey>_Alternate: 10
    Table_C.<primarykey>: 100
    Table_C.<primarykey>_Alternate: 100
    {and of course, fields for all the profile demographics you brought in like name, email, whatever....}

    Hope that helps,

    Scott
