1099 Nonemployee report type

ReportReport
Posted on by 27

We're on Dynamics GP 18.4 (2021), and I need just a little help with modifying the 1099 NEC report.

First off, yes, I know we're on an older version but all the data is fine and I'm planning an upgrade Q1 2023.

Secondly, the 1099 NEC form is spitting out the correct data, so that's not the problem.  I'm just starting the process of modifying the report, and in Report Writer, I see two 1099 NEC reports - one labeled "Laser" and the other is not.  What is the difference between the two?  They're both text reports with the same properties.  Do they use different fonts?  Something else?

Thirdly, what kind of trouble will I get into if I change the 1099 NEC report to a Graphical report?  Does that really screw with text placement?  I seem to recall it helps and allows for more fine-grained control.

Thanks!

    Hello

Prepare a new corrected form 1099-NEC and mark X in the “corrected” box. Record the correct information and other information like you did in the original return. Prepare a new Form 1096 as well with corrected information. Mail the corrected Form 1099-NEC and 1096 to the IRS and any required state tax departments.

Thanks, Constance, but I'm afraid your answer has nothing to do with my question.  Thanks for sharing, anyway.

    Hi Lawrence,

You have a couple of questions on Report Writer that would have in-depth troubleshoot.

Graphical reports are for adding a picture or a logo to a report when you use Report Writer.

Text reports are just that, only text data.

If you need more assistance than what these articles give you, I recommend you open a support case.

Please lookup and review these 2 links on the internet to help you with your quest to modify the 1099 report.

Margi, thanks for your response.  I thought I spelled out my two questions quite clearly, but maybe not.  I apologize if my attitude is wrong with how simple I think they are.

Having said that, you clearly answered the second of my two questions (graphical vs text report).  Thanks for that.

I am a bit surprised by the answers also.  Hopefully I won't do more of the same. :)

So, first for the graphical question.  As soon as you mark that report graphical, as you guessed the fields all move.  You then might spend a ton of time moving them all back.  I haven't done that on a 1099 report but it was annoying on a check report.  It is needed if you want to increase the font or something but I'd think twice.

As for modifying the report, I am guessing because you don't have the year-end update.  These are the changes (community.dynamics.com/.../microsoft-dynamics-gp-year-end-update-2022-payables-management-form-changes):

    • The IRS has removed the pre-printed YEAR on all the forms, so GP will now print the year on the forms (1099-INT, 1099-DIV, 1099-MISC, and 1099-NEC)

    • The 1099-MISC had some boxes moved around on the form and some boxes have been renumbered on the 1099-MISC and 1099-DIV forms.

    • Did you know that you can now print the1099-NEC form WITH LINES? !!  No need to buy preprinted 1099-NEC forms any longer.  See details below.

I don't think they use different fonts.  You can check a few fields quickly by using Ctrl-D while clicked on one of the fields.  There might be some page spacing differences.  Having the "Laser" option was from back in the day when we still had dot matrix printers and people were starting to get laser printers.  The default was for dot matrix (continuous feed) and Laser was for the single feed page.

So, you'd have to add the year, move boxes, and either design one with lines or just buy forms.  I think it's all doable but it may be worth using the time to upgrade instead.  I'm sure you've already considered this so just my thought. :)

Thanks, StefanieC!  Very verbose answer, which is precisely what I was after.  I want to say that it's odd the "laser" and "non-laser" reports are still a thing, but maybe dot-matrix printers are still in use more than I realize.  Anyway, thanks again!!
