Project Accounting time sheet entry for a salaried employee

Is it possible to enter time against a project for a salaried employee? We want to start using GP project accounting and have a couple of salaried employees who we want to track their time against certain projects. We did add an hourly pay code to these employees but we still get the message 'this pay code is not valid for this employee ID'. What pay code is it talking about? All I entered on the time sheet entry screen was the employee ID and cost category.

    Yes,

And that is where the fun part starts.. in my past company, they had started using the 'hour' as unit for PA time entry, but than later switched to 'Day', which was confusing to new employees when asked to enter their time in BP.. instead of entering 8 for a day of work, they needed to enter 1, or 0.5 or .25 when working on projects..

When I asked why this was setup counter-intuitively like this, I was answered that too many employees would enter overtime every day and cumulate hours.. this turned into an HR debate and instead of simply issuing a company policy to state that no OT was allowed, they changed the units from hours to days... but not in all companies, so some companies would still report in hours, because they were unionized and were allowed to enter OT..

Talk about a nightmare when it came to produce PA analysis reports for used time and had to do extra calculation to multiply the Days by 8 to get all results in hours :-(

Beat, I discovered that I had to click the multi-line display to see the field for pay code. I also had to add an hourly pay code to any salaried employee as salary pay codes do not allow you to enter time sheet transactions.

    Hi Richard,

I've been using the Project accounting module to track employee time for years in my past position.. Why you're asking for 'Salaried' employee ? to me it makes no difference if the employee is full-time or part-time employed.

You have to make sure that the Employee-ID is associated to the project you want them to track time against.

In the old GP version (until 2013) we used the PDK companion app from GP to get time data into PA & Payroll.

I'm not sure how it works now in the newer GP builds, but I'd  guess that the Project Time Entry screens in GP has replaced the old tandem PDK / Business Portal that was used to enter time against projects.

To me the new PA time entry screens looks very similar to the PDK screens of the old days, as it was a Dexterity app too.
