Availability of Dynamics AX 2012 R3 CU8?

We are currently still on the RTM version of AX 2012 R3 and I've like to use the developer tools from CU8 (with VS2013). However, when I look at the available updates from Lifecycle Services, it only offers CU9 and XCU10. Is there some way of expanding the list or getting CU8 some other way, or should I just download one of these 2?

By the way, I've yet to find a web page system as unfriendly to navigate as LCS.  It's taken me ages just to get to the updates page; I only located it through a reference in another message.

Why would you like to install some old cumulative update instead of the latest one?

I don't have problems with LCS navigation. Just go to your project and click on the Updates tile. It can't be much easier. Or, if you have an AX environment connected with LCS, you can click on its name in the Environments section and LCS will offer you applicable updates.

Why would I need to have a project?

Also I don't know how to connect an AX environment with LCS. Is this described anywhere?

I am used to , for example, getting the Cumulative Updates for SQL Server, where I just request it from the  download site, get an email and get the package. LCS seems designed to prevent people getting information and forcing people to talk to consultants/"partners". Of course, I also always seem to be logged in to the wrong Windows Live ID which doesn't help.

The reason for wanting CU8 is that I've just completed the Advanced developer course, which was run on CU8 and hence am familiar with that. Also, my previous attempt at applying CU10 failed; I've yet to have time to work out why.

You need a project because LCS is designed to be used with projects. You'll see context related your project (methodology, business process, environments, tasks and so on) and you also manage access at project level. You'll become more productive and less frustrated if learn how to use your tools.

If you have an environment that wasn't deployed from LCS and you want to connect it there, please read Install and run System diagnostics (Lifecycle Services) (AX 2012).

If you're a customer, the LCS project is yours. You don't have to ask any partner.

CU8 is old - install the latest CU instead, because it contains CU8 plus extra updates that you would have to install anyway sooner or later. If you have a problem with installation of CU10, please create a new thread and explain your problem in detail.

If I go into a project and select Updates, I am offered the options [1] to download the update installer, [2] a choice of 2 cumulative updates (CU9 & CU10) to slipstream into new installations (but this isn't a new installation) and [3] an upgrade analysis tool for the effects of CU8.

Downloading and running the update installer requesting "Download and install updates" gets the message "No internet connection found..." with no indication how to correct this.

Obviously, I cannot use the "Install updates" option until I have successfully downloaded them. Hence the original request as to how I download the cumulative update. I assume that since the available upgrade analysis is for CU8 that this would be the recommended update to apply first.

Cumulative updates are cumulative, therefore CU10 already contains all previous CUs. No need to install CU8 first.

Regarding the problem with installation, please make sure that you're connected to internet. If you need more help, please create a new thread (since this problem isn't about "Availability of Dynamics AX 2012 R3 CU8") and describe your situation in detail there.
