Data archive or purge in AX table

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hi All,

Our client is using Dynamics AX 2012 R3 CU13 version since 4 years. And our database size is growing rapidly. So we are looking for data archive or purge in AX table if possible. What are the table can be archived or purge and what will be the best practice to do that. What are the pros and cons doing it. Any one have worked in this area and done in live environment then please share you opinion.

Your help is appreciated.

Thanks in advance

We can use IDMF for AX2012. but you might want to clean up some tables before using it as Nikolaos suggested.

Check the "Top tables by size" report in SQL Server.

Most likely many of the tables are history/log tables that you can just clear if needed.

    That's the easy start.

If you would like to archive transactional data, you could look into IDMF tool (Intelligent Data Management Framework). But that would require significant investment (working time).
