Sales Category

Posted on by 302

Hi,

I have two organizations in my AX 2012. Organization A and Organization B. When I created a Sales Quotation in Organization A, the Quotation Line has a field called SalesCategory (which comes from product I guess) which is read only. And it is what I expect because I don't work with Sales Categories. Organization B has this field activated but it is not configured. So, this field is now mandatory. I want to disable this feature as in Organization A. Any one can pointed me to the right place to do this. I am a bit lost. I checked in Product Management but I didn't see. I also look for in Sales and Marketing.

thank you

    Hi,

I debug the code and I discover our partner introduced code in the SalesQuotationLine.write method which produce a transaction abort exception. This one was quiet. No message. For this reason the behaviour in the form was unexpected and cause that salesCategory was enabled.

thank you and sorry. I thought it was something which cames from the standard.

Ok, I agree. But the question is Org A has salesCategory (in SalesQuotationLine readonly) but in Org B you can choose a sales category (in this case a error is raised due the configuration is not done). So, I guess there is another place where you can say the system use sales categories or not.

Hi, In the product info module you have the category hierarchies form. One of your categories must be classified as the one for sales hierarchy.

    Can you identify that one?

The categories that you find there can be linked to your products in the released products form. On the product tab there is an option for product categories, which allows the product - category linkage.

If you don't like / need this, you can remove this linkage.

Before doing that, talk to your sales department to ensure that they don't need this linkage for some reports, ...

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

other contributors may suggest here better but as far as i know, if you activate a sales category, it becomes active for all companies. This means if you make a catrgory inactive this will become inactive for all organizations. This is standard AX behavior.
