Warehouse Locations

Dear All,

We are already using Dynamics AX 2012, and its up and running. Now we need to activate the locations functionality in one main warehouse only, while the location check box is non ticked in the storage dimension, so can i use the locations without change anything in the storage dimension or build new one? and can i use it for one warehouse only ?

Hello,

You need to set the location as Active in the 'Storage Dimension Groups' and mark the 'Blank receipt allowed' and 'Blank issue allowed' so that they can be empty for the warehouses that do not need a Location.

For sure, try all scenarios yourself on a Test server first.

Location tracking is defined at the item level (Changing the storage dimension on an item requires several hoops to jump through and is its own topic altogether).

In your warehouses that do not have locations you could create a single location and set it as the default receipt and issue location at the warehouse level. In this way locations will not require interaction at those warehouses.

For the warehouse that contains locations leave the default locations blank to allow location tracking

Hi Ahmed,

You would need to follow the following steps:

System would not allow the location check in the current storage dimension group. You would need to create a new storage dimension group having site warehouse and location activated.

You would then need to check the blank receipt and blank issue check boxes on the newly created storage dimension group.

Lastly you would need to assign the newly created storage dimension group on the item.
