I'm working on my master thesis, which is about ERP and the purpose of my work is to find out which department
(Finance, HR, Marketing or Procurement) fits best for standard ERP adoption and what are the reasons.

All departments fits in standard ERP. Is a some process fit or gap, depends of business requirements, not from department. You have to describe business requirement of preferred department and with what ERP solution you want to compare. Then, you can get a answer is it fit or not.
