Assigning a warehouse worker to a Work Cluster

Can we assign/lock a work cluster to a user? 

I had a few testing in the work cluster creation and accidentally I had one work cluster where locked by field has a value.

I don't even know how I was able to assign the value there, we need the work clusters to be restricted to specific warehouse workers only.

    Hi Riel,

    The cluster is locked by the user (worker) automatically when he starts picking it. As far as I see from your screenshot Cluster profile you use creates cluster ID. With this profile after you built a cluster on mobile device the system automatically starts picking of those works (that is why you see it locked). To unlock cluster you should select "Pass" on mobile device to make it available for other worker.

    What is your current process? Do you need to build clusters beforehand and then assign it to users? Or you give then ability to build their own clusters?

    It should work in the way you have set it up now, i.e. the worker will build cluster, it will be locked against him and no one will be able to pick this cluster until he finishes or pass it.

    Hi Nataliia,

    The current process requires a specific person to create work clusters and will be later assigned to a warehouse worker. So ideally we want the warehouse team lead to create work cluster and will have the ability to assign the work cluster to a worker (just like how work orders function).

    Do you mean that you currently use "Change user" button on the work to assign worker who is responsible for the work and then by using "Display open work list" menu item on mobile device workers pick up the work from  the queue?

    As far as I see at that stage it is not possible to change user for a cluster from web client. Another thing is that Cluster picking flow on mobile device starts from scanning "Cluster Id" field, so if you set it to auto generated then you need to produce a document or something else from where the worker can scan this number. I could not find any standard reports that has it as a barcode, also "Display open work list" menu item does not show works added to a cluster, so we cannot use it either.

    Could you create clusters with cluster IDs that is same as worker id (i.e. manually assign number)? In this case warehouse manager will create clusters for every worker and when worker will start picking it, the system will lock the work against him. Another option would be to create clusters under worker accounts, but in this case you should relogin every time when you build new cluster for different user.

    I think the explanation is clear enough for me to suggest that the creation of cluster be done by the warehouse operators instead.

    Totally agree, the process when workers create clusters for themselves is much more easier to manage :)
