Hi,

We have a new installation of EP.

When we run AX from IIS server as admin and try to deploy using below method.

AOT -> web -> web files -> page difinitions -> select any of the item and right click to deploy the element -> below error pops up.

Error:  The request failed with HTTP status 401: Unauthorized.

Is there a way to fix this?

Any help will be greatly appriciated.

Thanks,

Nadeem

    Hi,

I have tried the AXUpdatePortal untility from IIS server to update all the EP objects but same error as well.

The operation failed to execute. Error: The request failed with HTTP status 401: unauthorized. Please check the error log for details.

If you are using the fully qualified domain name (FQDN) or a custom host header on hte Sharepoint web application, make sure that the following workaround is applied before you install enterprise portal http://support.microsoft.com/kb/896861

    I have checked event log:

System.Net.webexception: The request failed with HTTP status 401: authorized.

There is a set of permissions necessary in order to deploy artifacts to EP according to this TechNet article: technet.microsoft.com/.../ee355087.aspx

Most installation issues for Enterprise Portal result from insufficient permissions by the person performing the installation. Verify that you have the appropriate permissions to perform the installation. If this list does not help you identify and resolve the problem, view the Windows Event Logs for more information about the error you are receiving.

    • Membership in the System administrator role in Microsoft Dynamics AX
    • Membership in the Administrators group in Windows on the Web server
    • Membership in the Farm Administrators group in SharePoint
    • Membership in the dbcreator role on the instance of SQL Server that is used for SharePoint
    • Membership in the WSS_Content_Application_Pools database role in the SharePoint_Config database

We also recommend that you follow these steps before you deploy Enterprise Portal to verify that you have the correct permissions for the installation.

    • Verify that you can open SharePoint Central Administration on the Enterprise Portal server.
    • Verify that you have the appropriate permissions to create sites by using SharePoint Central Administration to create a SharePoint team site.
    • Verify that you can browse the team site without prompts and resolve the URL without proxy errors or other problems.
    • If you intend to deploy or configure Enterprise Portal at a command prompt, verify that you can start the SharePoint Management Shell.

The same requirements are mentioned on MSDN: msdn.microsoft.com/.../dd261467.aspx

To successfully deploy Enterprise Portal resources, you must have the following roles and permissions:

    • Administrator role in Microsoft Dynamics AX.
    • Administrator for SharePoint. To verify this, open SharePoint Central Administration on the Enterprise Portal server. If you cannot access SharePoint Central Administration, a SharePoint administrator must open SharePoint Central Administration > Security > Manage the farm administrators group and add you as an administrator.
    • Site collection administrator for the Enterprise Portal site. To verify this, open SharePoint Central Administration > Application Management. Click Site Collections > Change site collection administrators. Verify that you are listed as the primary or secondary site collection administrator.
    • Privileges to access the file locations on the Enterprise Portal server where files will be put. One way to guarantee this is by running the command prompt that is used to call AxUpdatePortal.exe with administrative privileges.

Please verify you've setup the permissions correctly.

    Thanks Tommy for details.

I have checked all of them and everything was fine except below.

    Found the resolution:

Basic authentication was disabled on "SharePoint Central Administrator" site in IIS manager.

    Enabled the above.

Used the deployment option from systemadministration - >setup -> Enterprise portal -> Deployments and it worked fine.
