I have a custom workspace form with tabs which include form parts. A custom security role has permissions for the workspace and a bunch of other forms. The user with this custom role can see and access all elements on the workspace except for the form parts and display menu items of those form parts. Can someone please explain what causes this behavior?

The custom security role is probably missing the menu item references for these form parts. I do assume it is also a custom privilege? You can perform a task recording and use the form 'Security diagnostics for task recordings' to check what exactly is missing.
If there is a security role having the correct parts, you can compare details of linked display menu items as well.
