Web client upgrade from 18.2 to 18.3

Hi All,

I am running a test to upgrade Web client  from 18.2 to 18.3 in a single server, I got GP upgraded to 18.3.1200 with no trouble, I tried to follow Justin Sutton's article published on 9-23-2020 (+) Microsoft Dynamics GP Fall 2020 - Upgrading the Web Client - Microsoft Dynamics GP Community  I tried to installed Web Components from the download of MDGPFALL2020_DVD_ENUS media but I did not see Select to upgrade your existing Web Client installation, all I can see is add/remove, repair or remove. Am I doing anything wrong? Do we need to upgrade Web Services for email approve? Do we need swap any file in the media like last year?

Thanks,

Rob

Most likely, there isn't anything in Web Client that changed, thus there's no version change and so no option to Upgrade.

My thoughts are that it looks at the Version table in the GPCONFIGURATION database for Web Client, and as nothing changed there, it doesn't have any 'Upgrade' to do, compared to if you were coming from GP 2016 or a lesser version like that.

It is only Web Services for 18.2 that we were required to slipstream the MSP file in the Updates folder, for the install via the Configuration Wizard to go through, we've resolved this with Web Services for 18.3 and the MSP file is already there by default.

Looking at the WSInstallStatus table for Web Services, on a 18.3 environment, it does show a version of 18.3, so for Web Services there does appear to be an actual upgrade available.

    Thanks

    Hi Derek,

Indeed there is no web client upgrade needed from 18.2 to 18.3 but it looked to me we need to upgrade Web Services from 18.2 to 18.3 otherwise email notification will not work. I tried to use GP FALL 2020 media to install Web Service but it gives me only Repair or Remove from the installation, no upgrade as a choice. Do I need to uninstall first then install from the Fall 2020 media? Run configuration to select upgrade that way?  Please advise.

    Thanks,

    Rob

    Hi Derek

Where can I see Web Service is up running? I can see the piece loaded in Programs & Features below as 18.0.1021(18.2).

I cannot see it from Windows Services.

    Thanks,

    Rob

Here is what I did to upgrade Web Service from 18.2 to 18.3:

    1) Remove Web Service 18.2 from the server that you installed

    2) Install Web Service from GP 2020 Fall Media

    3) Run Web Service Configuration

    4) I felt lucky this time the configuration went smoothly. I had trouble to upgrade from GP2018R2 to 18.2 last year, I had to remove all the SQL objects from Dynamics and company databases then run the configuration to create those SQL objects again.

I hope my testing experience would help some folks in this year end update. If someone is having better way to upgrade Web client & Web service, please post here in this forum to share.

    Thanks,

    Rob
