New installed AX 2012 R3. "The server is unavailable"

I installed AX2012 R3 instance (both client and server) to a server which already has AX 2012 feature pack installed. No errors or warnings during installation. I Cannot launch the client, always get the "The server is unavailable. Check your configuration and network connection and try again". I'm pretty sure the server is running, and the configuration points to the right port. And I tried to launch client from other client machine, still no luck. Any idea on that? thanks.

Have you verified that the (right) AOS service is running? Don't you see anything in event log, especially on the server?

    Thanks Martin,

The server is running. I checked the log at server. There're no warnings, but 2 errors,

    When starting,

    • RPC error: Failed to register service principal name (SPN)

    When stopping,

    • RPC error: Failed to unregister service principal name (SPN)

    Hi Andrew

    Could be a DNS problem.

On the AX Configuration Utility try to use IP address instead of the AOS Server name.

    Thanks Denis,

I tried IP address as well, no luck.

As per you details, I can understand that you have two AOS server, hence two AOS services will be there

Please verify that AOS service status in Windows Services list, it is required to be in Running status

Then go to Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 Client Configuration tool and check that AX2012 R3 is set for default configuration.

Please verify and update us with your findings

If you find everything is fine and still you are not able to open then

I suspect it is du to the so called support issue,

in which it is said that instance of AX 2012 R3 and AX 2012 is not suppose to be on same machine.

I suggest you should consider uninstalling the AX 2012 Feature pack instance and then try.

Please verify and update us with your findings

    Hi Nitesh,

I think you're right. I installed the instance of AX 2012 R3 on another server which has AX 2012 feature pack installed already as well. The same symptom.

After I uninstalled the AX 2012 feature pack instance, I was able to launch AX 2012 R3 client.
