Behavior when deleting 1:N Relationship?

Posted on by 20

I have a relationship in Dynamics CRM between contact (primary) and custom entity Policy (related). The relationship I created is named 'new_contact_policy_customerid' relationship.

Our governance wanted to rename the relationship name, unfortunately, this is not supported once the relationship has been created and published.

My plan is to delete the relationship and re-create it, but I wanted to know what is the effect when I delete this relationship.

Alternative ways to rename a relationship name too?

    Hello,

You can not update schema name. So need to create a new relationship.

Please follow below steps to implement your requirement.

    1.Check dependency on old relationship.

    2. If there is any dependence then move it on the new relationship.

    3. Create a solution add this changes. Move it to the target environment.

    4. Update the data with replacing old Relationship with new one.

Then if you want to delete old Relationship it is okay else be else let it be...

    Thank you,

Exactly. I need to rename the schema name, not the display name.

We have 2 environments, DEV and UAT (managed).

So in DEV, I tried to delete the entity-relationship and create a new one with correct schema name.

What is the correct process to duplicate this in our UAT environment? Using Cloned Solution?

    Specific steps?

    Hi Benjsoft,

You can not rename the schema name but the Display name.

If I answer your question then please mark it as verified.

Let me know if I can provide you with more details.

    Thanks

Relationships once created cannot be renamed. Any ideas to rename it?

    Hi Benjsoft,

Before deleting the existing relationship. Rename the old relationship and the column by adding the Prefix (Deprecated) or (Deleted). Create a new relationship. Fix data. Move dependencies.

After some days delete the old relationship (Deprecated) or (Deleted).

If I answer your question then please mark it as verified.

    Hello,

You will have to check that relationship's dependency first. If it will be having dependency then you will have to replace it with the new one.

Then check the existing data which is having the relationship data.. And replace it with new one.

I would add a new relationship and copy data to this new relationship and change the old ones' display name to (deleted)some relationship
