Anyone using Dynamics AX and the Outlook Integration?

I am curious to learn if partners and customers are using the built-in Outlook integration in Dynamics AX. In my experience the most customers use remote desktops for the AX Client and local desktops for Outlook. More often these are cumbersome to integrate and less likely to be used like they are intended. The current Outlook integration allows for synchronization between AX (contacts, appointments, tasks) and Outlook.

What are you guys doing here? Completing the integration with Outlook? Buying an Exchange integration instead? Opting out on the Outlook sync feature? Undecided?

There might not be an "answer" for this, but hopefully my questions won't be moderated away. ;-)

Hi, I am also very interested in any solutions to the above.

We are currently developing an AX 2012 solution for our business and deliver AX worldwide over a Terminal Services app, due to AX only being able to synchronize with a local client we cannot currently sync between the two using terminal services.

At the moment we are looking in to the option of having our users log in to a terminal services desktop running AX/Outlook and office programs with logon scripts etc to create their accounts. Due to licensing we would need to remove the local Outlook/Office clients from any PC's accessing AX this way - In turn creating a dependency on Terminal services and a single point of failure for our applications, this is not a path we particularly wish to go down.

Tommy - The exchange integration you mention above, is this a third party option?

Has anyone found a work around to this issue?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

    Thanks Kelvin,

The one I am working with right now is a pretty darn good one made by a partner called Axperience. You can download a PDF explaining its features from here:

As for native Exchange integration out of the box, I simply don't understand why we don't have it. It would be a lot easier to sell Exchange or Office365 to our customers. I guess its a business/strategic decision made somewhere by someone. :-)

Tommy, my customers are not using it, for the reasons you stated. It would be nice!
