Can I enter receipts and change the period to post to a future month without messing up the current month? instead of holding all the receipts/vendor invoices for the month until we close the previous month, it would be good to enter and release later.
Assuming the screen is not customize to hide the field and that there is no setting or third party add-on preventing changing to a future period, you should be able to change the Period to Post on the PO Receipts screen or IN Receipts screen when you make the entry.
